How to screenshot on the HTC ONE

From time to time you will find yourself in a position where you are going to want to share what is going on on your cell phone screen with someone. It’s nice to know that these days this is not going to a problem. In this tutorial I will show you how you can make a screenshot on the HTC ONE, and the new HTC ONE (M8).

Thankfully these days more and more cell phone manufactures has implemented a way for us to capture the things happening on our screens without the need to root our phones. This is how to take a screen dump on the HTC ONE.

Hold the power button before pressing the home button

Step by step instruction on how to screenshot on the HTC ONE.

  1. Press and hold the Power button on the top left of your phone.
  2. Without releasing the first button press the home button in the lower right of your phones screen.
  3. If this was useful why not

If you found this way a little hard to get right there is a second way of doing it.

HTC ONE screenshot second way.

  1. Press and hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time.
  2. make sure you press them at the SAME time and that you HOLD them pressed for about 2 secons intil your cell phone screen flash.

That’s it you should now have a new picture of your phones screen in the screenshot section of your gallery. If you can’t find the screenshot folder in your gallery don’t worry it will appear after you have done it one time.

From your gallery there should be a multitude of options for sharing you new picture with your friends and family either through favorite social media or simply through messaging them directly.

I am Facing same problem while capturing screen shot.. “Can’t take screenshot due to limited storage space, or ti isn’t allowed by the app or your organization”
How can i solve this problem????

  2. Thank you very much .this is such a useful idea and both ideas are working good …

  3. So let’s say your power button is broken and sticks down halfway. Every time I want to use the home button to actually go home it takes a screen shot. Is there a way to disable this?

thank you very much it help alot.

  5. My HTC M8 in AT&T, there is a problem with message “couldn’t capture screenshot due to limited storage or it isn’t allowed by app or your organization”. Could you help?

    • I have the same problem. If you have a solution. I’ll be glad if you could share it.

      • I’m facing the same problem. Any solution to that yet?

        • My HTC M8 began giving me same message “couldn’t capture screenshot due to limited storage or it isn’t allowed by app or your organization” after latest Update…any solution for it?

  6. Finally! I hate the home button as it hides. Pulling it up then hides the very item I try to shoot.

  7. Thanks for this! On my old phone, I had to hit the lock screen and home screen buttons at the same time and it instantly took a shot. I tried the same on my HTC and it didn’t happen because it takes a second or two to actually capture the image. Never would have figured it out if it werent for this post. Thanks!

  8. I hate using real micro switches – they wear out eventually, I never need to touch that button apart for this :-( dot view case turns phone off when closed and on again when opened). The “side swipe” like my previous phone “Samsung Galaxy S3” is much better – you should be able to allocate “screenshot” to a gesture in some configuration option.

I am glad I found a way though – Gotta keep on top of the twitter trolls somehow.

  10. Hello,

Ever since I HID my screenshot folder I am unable to get it back to visible in my gallery. It is so frustrating. I select all my folders so that I can see them and it has the box checked to show my screenshot folder but it still does not come up in my gallery. So when I take a screenshot if I don’t get my screenshot right when it pops up on the navigation screen I can’t find it. Or the only other way for me to find it would be if I was going to attache a photo then I went into gallery like from fb or while in the middle of sending a sms then i can see my screenprint in ALL PHOTOS when i make my selection but other then that I cannot find it. Does anyone no why?

Thank you for putting me out of my misery!! I managed to grab a screen print whilst my phone was in my by belt case and I wondered how on earth (or other planet) I managed that!!

  12. YAY! I can’t believe I can finally do this! I’ve had my HTC One X for over a year & could never figure this out! My power button is on the right & my home button is in the middle on the bottom but I was able to figure it out. I’ve done a screenshot on accident before but didn’t know how I did it. Thank you very much for posting this! I’ve looked at other sites and their instructions never seemed to work for my phone.

  13. HI, i somehow ended up here while trying to find a solution as to how to access or retrieve contacts from my htc one v, once the display has gone blank, or black rather. it doesn’t switch on/off either. please help.

    • Most likely your contacts has been automatically backed up to your Gmail account. Log in to your Gmail and check out your contacts tab.

  14. The second method is sketchy. I tries it and it factory reset my phone. It’s much safer to use the power and home buttons.

    • I’m happy you found a way that works for you. And thank you so much for the feedback. It is not often people leave a reply after they find what they need. Thanks!

  15. this is not working after the 4.3 update.. before it was working perfectly.

  16. To see the screenshots folder on the HTC ONE:

    1. Go into “Gallery” and tap “My Photos”
    2. At the upper left side tap on “Events” and select “Albums” from the drop-down menu
    3. You’ll see one Album named “Screenshots”

(For me they were not visible any other way the day I set the phone up; would I need to let another day go by before the screenshots are also shown under “events”?)

  17. Hussein Nasser says:

A bit frustrating that i have to go to gallery go share the picture .. it would be better go display a little share icon right after i take the snapshot

    • The first method, with the power button and home button saves the file to gallery and you can only access it that way. The second method, with power and vol down, puts a notification in the notification bar. You can two finger swipe down on that notification and get a share button!
