PRE-MWC: Last Minute Contenders

As we have covered last time in the Pre-MWC articles, it seems there are more and more upcoming last minute OEMs announcing their devices just a week (days) before MWC to build anticipation for their devices. Among these last minute contenders include LG, which already announced their 2015 Flagship, the LG G4 would not be making an appearance at MWC 2015, instead be released in Quarter 3 later this year, so LG can spend more time perfecting the device. We will be covering the latest OEM device announcements before MWC in the upcoming days as more leaks and announcements surface.

Let’s begin with LG and their plans for their appearance at MWC.

Many people thought that LG would be announcing their LG G4 device at MWC, and those people turned out to be wrong. People also thought that LG was only announcing one device, or one line of devices, but it turns out that LG doesn’t just make high end, premium phones. Their latest announcement, LG is releasing not 1, but 4 new Mid-range, Android 5.0 Lollipop powered devices at MWC this year. Each of these 4 new devices contain similar, but different specifications to aim at the Low-Mid end market, to make the devices more affordable but also provide functionality and features.

DESIGN AND NAMING SCHEME

Each of these devices are uniquely named, but have similar designs. The names of these new 4 devices are: the LG Spirit, LG Magna, LG Leon, and LG Joy. As seen in LG’s G Flex 1, Flex 2, G2, G3, and most likely G4, the button layout is very similar, with the volume rocker buttons being oriented vertically, and placed on the back below the camera. Power button is stacked in between the volume up and down buttons. The LG Joy, being a cheaper device, stands out from the other 3 devices, with buttons on the side and including capacitive buttons. All 4 devices will be available in different colors, or 3G or 4G variants.

We will be waiting on an official detailed announcement from LG in the upcoming weeks. Coverage on LG’s release at MWC will be on Androidfact.com so be sure to check that out when it happens.

Now, let us move on to some other lesser-known OEMs out there, like the china OEM, Meizu. Although Meizu is not very big in North America, it sure is one of the top smartphone competitors in the market in China, right up there with Huawei, and Xiaomi. Their latest announcement for their flagship, will be the successor to previous year’s Meizu MX4, and MX4 Pro, you guessed it, will be named the MX5. Now there are tons of rumors regarding the specifications for this device, like the supposed World record setting, 41MP Primary camera, ON A SMARTPHONE! That’s unheard of, but we will have to see if the MX5 will live up to the hype and rumors. Of course these are just speculations and rumors, so take it with a grain of salt. Whether or not this device will be seen at MWC isn’t known yet, but for now we can just hope so.

Let’s gather all the device’s rumoured specifications shall we?

For the display the leaks regard the device sporting a 5.5 Inch QHD display (2560×1440) resolution. The device will probably be armed with corning gorilla Glass 4, as seen on many other 2015 flagships. Since the company hails from china, the device will probably not use a north American SoC (System on Chip), like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon. The device will instead be rumoured to use an Octa-Core Mediatek SoC. Mediatek released their Mediatek MT6795last year, which would be a good SoC to be included in the MX5, as it does include an Octa-Core Processor (Quad-Core Cortex A57 2.0GHz and a Quad-Core Cortex A53 1.7GHz), and a 64 Bit architecture. The device will pack 4GB of next gen RAM, to suit those multitasking freaks.

China blog, MyDrivers have leaked these specifications out to the public, and are now claiming that the device will be sporting a fingerprint scanner, but will still be bearing the classic Meizu capacitive home button on the bottom bezel beneath the screen. Of course the most ridiculous rumoured specification of all, the camera. Leaks announced an insane 41MP Primary camera for the device. The MX4 and MX4 Pro, both had 21MP Sony IMX220 Cameras on board, so if this 41MP camera rumour is true, we could be seeing next gen Camera functionality and capabilities, doubling the potential of current high res smartphone shooters.

And there we have it ladies and gentlemen, that wraps up our Last minute MWC contenders for the week, stay tuned to Androidfact.com as MWC is literally a week away from reaching headlines all over the internet.
