Return of Sony’s Vaio: A new device

As most people remember Vaio as part of Sony’s enterprise way back in the day, Vaio has since been its own separate company, and quite recently we may expect Vaio to re-enter the smartphone market. Long ago, the Sony Vaio line-up featured mostly consumer grade personal computers and iconic laptops, (at least that’s how I remember it.)

The new Vaio Phone is rumoured to be making an appearance on the release date March 12, so we should be expecting some news regarding the new handset. Keep in mind these topics of discussions are only the result of speculations and rumors, so take it with a grain of salt. When Sony departed with Vaio, people thought that was it for the Sony and Vaio partnership, when in fact, Sony is still a shareholder still holds a 5% margin of Vaio.

The new handset leaked online resembles closely to that of Sony’s Z/xperia line up of smartphones. Benchmark results have popped up, but exact scores have not been revealed. Most speculations and rumors have been revealed by GSMARENA. Leaked specifications include a low to mid-range build including a 64-Bit MSM8916Snapdragon 410 Chipset (Quad-Core ARM Cortex A53 clocked at 1.2GHz), including either a 1GB/2GB RAM variant depending on Storage capacity, and either 16GB or 32GB storage options.

The display is rumoured to be 5 Inches in size, with an HD 720P resolution. Now, because Vaio still has a correlation with Sony, we can expect a somewhat decent camera setup for this new device. The camera should be sporting a 13MP primary shooter, and a 5MP Front facing Selfie shooter. As most handsets in 2015 are coming out of the box pre-installed with Google’s Android 5.0x Lollipop, the Vaio Phone should be expecting a Lollipop operating system, (Quite rarely do we see 4.4.4 KitKat devices come pre-installed out of box in 2015, unless it comes with an Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update.)

The Vaio phone is no Galaxy S6 or LG G4, but the device becomes a lot more affordable, specs are a major difference though.

The device is also rumoured to be available locally in Japan, so the Japanese market will be the first to gain access to the device when it becomes officially released, so we may be expecting a later date for North American markets to get access to this new phone. While markets for lower end budget smartphones have already been established by multiple Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi, Huawei, Oneplus, and Meizu, it seems quite late for Vaio to enter the budget handset game.

The Vaio phone does not appear to be making an appearance at MWC this year, but as rumors tell, the handset may be announced a little bit after MWC has ended.

And that wraps up this update about the Vaio Phone, as always, share it with your friends if you enjoyed reading, and have a good day.
