A small warning concerning live wallpapers before you set it. Although they can be really beautiful and way cool to show of to your friends they can sometimes consume a lot of battery power, and in such a way a bit of a trade of. The least battery consuming home screen background is a totally black background.

I am trying to set some pictures I loaded into my phone from my photo gallery in my computer. They are 640 pixels and larger and seem to be too big since the blue crop box that appears when I try to set them as wallpaper only covers a small portion of them. I can easily resize them before I transfer them to the phone, I just want to know what size to make them.

    • The screen on the galaxy s3 is 720 x 1280 pixels. If you resize your images to that size they should fit perfectly.

  5. Asking the question again. How to set S3 to be a default black background by settings, not using a black image?

How can I get a black home screen and lock screen on my Samsung Galaxy S3? I want no wallpaper or photos, just black.
    Thanks

    • Someone please share this answer.

      • I don’t think it’s possible to achieve this without the use of a black image. May I ask why you do not want to use a image or photo as a your wallpaper ??

        • I’m with Gabriel on this. Why should I have any wallpaper at all. I just don’t want it. For me it is pointless.

May I ask why you want to use an image or a photo as your wallpaper?

The phone is full. Full of stuff it’s installed by itself and it complains that it’s memory is full.
It IS full. It is full of stuff that I don’t want and can’t delete. e.g. “you tube”, “think free office”, “news and weather”, “talk”, “talkback”, “social hub”.
It’s all trash and I object to being forced into carting it about.
The default should be that it is NOT installed and if I want it, I will install it!

Anyway, I had somehow managed to have no wallpaper for the last 6 months or so.
Yesterday the phone rebooted itself. It applied a wallpaper all by itself and it is not possible to revert back to a plain black screen.

        • Because there are icons on the screen. Having a picture behind a bunch of icons and widgets is just noisy.

      • I would also like to use a blank screen on my S3 home screen, a picture behind the icons is just to much clutter. Also may just eat up a bit more battery life as well. It is cool and all, but I like a blank screen, had a blank screen all this time why change now!!

        Thanks
        Dave

  8. Hello!

Is it possible to chose a lying photo as your background picture and if you just swipe to the next page on the home page you can see more of the photo? So it’s only a part of the photo that is on the first page of the home page. You’ll see the rest if you just swipe to the next ones. That would be awesome, so please try to help me!

I recently upgraded from the Galaxy S Vibrant to the S# and its best purchase I have gotten in awhile. My cell recently started changing “Home Screens” by itself every 10 minutes or so. It uses pictures from my camera, my wallpapers and a few downloads. How can I stop this, since I don’t even remember setting up any kind of a slide show option.

    • Simply follow the instructions in the article to choose the wallpaper you want, this will make the slide show wallpaper go away.

  10. I have the Galaxy 2, and recently had my insurance replace my phone. The new Galaxy 2 now forces me to re-size pictures before I use them as my wallpaper. An orange cropping box appears after I select the image I want to use. I can’t enlarge the box to include the whole picture, and the image that I am left with doesn’t fit on my home screen. It is out of focuss and too large. My previous phone didn’t force this re-sizing. How do I fix this?

    • It would seem that you can no longer do this. I have tried myself on my s3 and my girlfriends s2. It used to work but after Jelly Bean update this is no longer possible.

      • Hi Billy,
You seem to know alot about the lock screen. Can you tell me how to change the Banner that is on my lock screen_ not the wallpaper?
        Thanks,
        Marc

  11. Hi.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.
Is there any way of changing the background image in the ‘Gallery’.
When I view the thumbnails in the ‘Gallery’ there is a blurred and distorted version of one of my pictures making up the background.
I would like to remove it if that is possible.
    Hope you can help.
    Regards.

    Bill

    • I’m not sure but I suspect it wight work the same way as the galaxy s3. In that case do as< follows : Hit the menu button when you have the picture you want open in the gallery. A list will appear, but only the top half. You have to put your finger on that list and scroll down a bit until you se the ” SET AS “. Thats the one you are looking for Push it and choose to set you image as Home screen, Lock screen or both. Hope this helps.

  12. How can i change the wallpaper when i am in gallery? I mean if i am in photo gallery and i want to set a photo to be home wallpaper how can i do that without living the gallery . IPhone can do that. Galaxy s3 can do that? I have try to hold the finger longer on picture is not working. The menu has no set as option. So is posibile of not?

  13. Hi,

Its a good tutorial for the new smart phone users. But whether we can keep the one photo for each of the home screens(if there are 5 home screens, can we keep 5 photos). If so please let me know how to do.

    Thanks,
    PPR
