Why carrier specific cell phones suck

In Norway we don’t have carrier specific cell phones like you do in America.

You may have heard of our excellent health plans.(rivaled only by Canada and France) But you are going to cry your eyes dry when i tell you about how we don’t have carrier specific cell phones here in Norway. Actually i think this applies to quite a few countries around the world.

Sadly i believe the only reason why this praxis even exists is for carriers to have phones that can’t easily be compared price vise.

I have seen something similar happen in our tech stores. You can visit store A and find a TV you like but its hard to compare prices in store B
because the same exact TV has a different model number. This way the person trying to sell you the TV can say that they have the best price on the product you want to buy.

So why has it come to this ?

I believe that many years ago a bright person in a big company came up with the idea to lure customers away from the competitors. And this could some time have been a great idea.

Imagine you ran a cell phone company and persuaded Samsung to sell the Galaxy s4 only through your web page. You would get a lot of customers I bet. But these days all the carriers have their own phones and basically sending customers back and forth depending on which phones they carry. Besides that, if I have understood this correct you are going to have to pick the carrier with reception in the area you live and spend your time.

How to pick the right cell phone provider.

Lately I have been reading a lot of angry comments from people who can’t get a hold of the brand new Motorola Moto X without making the switch to AT&T. And from what I have read it seems that having the Moto X exclusively isn’t going to bring them a lot of new customers. More likely this is going to anger all the people who want the phone but can’t or won’t change carriers.

Help us share this to hopefully influence carriers in a positive way ( make them stop this foolishness )

Knowing that I could get motomaker at some point in the future would prevent me from getting a black one. Problem is, phones move fast. Also false for the Health Care thing — Canada is going bankrupt with it, just like the US is just trying to implement it. Europe already has, and is fixing it.

It is a very relevant topic to the US. Europe has had portable phones since the mid 90’es and it’s only just now happening in the US.

The Nexus 7 LTE is the first device where you can pick between Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. That has never before been possible in the US. It is going to be great for US consumers and Google made it happen.

I don’t understand why anyone would wait on the Moto X. The only thing that phone will ever do is to get Andy Rubin fired and it already did that. As relevant as Britney Spears.

  3. This article is false. The Moto X is coming to all major US carriers (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T) However the MotoMaker feature is only available at this time through AT&T. Don’t get me wrong I hate bullshit things like carrier exclusives but the Moto X isn’t one

    • Well at least for the time being you would have to switch carrier if you where on a different one.
I think most people are like me, they don’t want to wait around for weeks or months to get the new cell phone of their dreams.
False article or not, you will have to make up your own mind on that.
Anyways thank you for your feedback.

      • Knowing that I could get motomaker at some point in the future would prevent me from getting a black one. Problem is, phones move fast. Is buying a 6 month old phone actually going to be a good thing?
