According to Samsung’s executive vice president for marketing Lee Young hee has revealed that the Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 will get support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch by the end of December.
He also confirmed that the Galaxy s4 will get its Galaxy Gear smartwatch support by the end of October. This means that the Galaxy s4 will get it update to Android 4.3 in October.
How come we can claim that the these devices will get the Android 4.3 update ? Well, Samsung has earlier told us that the reason that these phones don’t support the Galaxy Gear already is because they don’t have Android 4.3.
What’s so special about Android 4.3 ?
Obviously there is a lot of new things introduced with this new version, What’s new though in regards to the Galaxy Gear is that it has Bluetooth 4.0 LE. This is the way the Gear connects to cell phones, and also why the Galaxy Note 3 is the only phone that can be used with the Gear smart watch at this time.

- Galaxy S4 gets its 4.3 update in October. ( How to update the Galaxy S4 )
This also supports the claim that The Gear smart watch might someday support phones from other manufacturers. As soon as they get their 4.3 update. Should your non Samsung device get its Galaxy Gear support it will likely be in a limited way. S-voice and S-health won’t work on a HTC or a LG.
