As you may or may not remember, Samsung showed us a gamepad for use with Android phones almost a year ago.
Finally they have officially announced this gamepad for use with cell phones. To use the gamepad you are going to have a cell phone with Android 4.1 or newer. However the announcement from Samsung states it has been optimized for devices with 4.3.
This is likely due to the support of Bluetooth version 3.0 in these phones.
Thankfully the gamepad looks a whole lot better than the iteration we saw at the time of the Galaxy s4 release. You can see a picture of the prototype right here. Comparing it to the picture above I for one is happy Samsung took their time making it into what it is today.
- 8 way D-pad
- 2 analog sticks
- Select button
- Start button
- 4 action buttons
- 2 trigger buttons
- PLAY button ( for Android 4.3 and up )
The gamepad has a 160mA battery and is made to accommodate devices in the range from 4 inches up to 6.3 inches. According to the announcement the pad is currently available in selected European markets, but will be made available to more countries in the coming weeks.
