Top 20 Google play store top grossing games has only one paid game

The Google play store is the where we download our apps and games. Obviously the reason why developers make games is to make money, so why don’t they charge us a single dollar to download and install their premium games?

If we take a look at the top 20 list of the top grossing list in Google play store the only game you have to pay to download is Minecraft – Pocket Edition.

It would seem that charging people to download a game is not the way to make the most money from a game these days. If we assume that the biggest reason these games are made is to make money, and they are. A different approach than outright charging us to install it is the best way.

Giving away a premium game for free is likely a great way to make lots of us download it and start playing it. So where does the money come from?

Microtransactions is the answer to that question. By making a game where people can pay small amounts ingame to receive special items or progress faster developers has found the best way to make as much as possible. If you want some proof just check out the image below.

Is microtransactions a bad thing in Android games ?

For the most part I think that they are not so bad because it means that I can play a lot of premium games for free. Another thing is that if I really like the game so much that I decide to pay for it, it suits me fine that I can take it for a spin before I make up my mind.

Another thing to take into consideration if you hate microtransaction games, is that in many cases you will get more out of a game if you do not pay for that “super duper mega gun” you would otherwise have to earn in game. If a game is truly great you should not pay if you want it to last longer.
